Cheese Recall - Feb. 2024

What is the reason for this recall? What is the problem with the cheese?

Rizo-Lopez Foods, Inc., a supplier of Cotija cheese to Home Chef’s supplier, Sargento, has announced a nationwide recall due to Listeria monocytogenes found in the Rizo-Lopez, Inc. facility. Out of an abundance of caution, Sargento, which supplies multiple cheeses to Home Chef, has voluntarily recalled those and additional cheese products used in our meal kits that were packaged by Sargento on the same line as the recalled Cotija cheese. Therefore, Home Chef is advising customers to discard any cheese ingredients contained in the meal kits impacted by this recall.

If you have consumed the cheese ingredient and you are experiencing illness or you have other medical concerns, please contact your healthcare provider, as recommended by the FDA

What should I do if I already made/consumed a meal that was recalled?

If you have consumed the cheese and you are experiencing illness or have other medical concerns, please contact your healthcare provider immediately, as recommended by the FDA

How do I know if my meals were affected by this recall? What do I do if it was?

All customers who ordered a meal from Home Chef with an ingredient affected by this recall have received a direct notification to the email address associated with your Home Chef account on February 6 or 7, 2024.

If you are unsure if you have ordered an affected meal, a full list of meals with the recalled cheese ingredients is below. If you received a below meal with cheese ingredient(s), discard the cheese in your meal kit(s) as a precaution:

  • Hot Honey-Glazed Scallops
  • Mushroom and Sausage Ragu
  • Cheesy Pimiento-Style Penne
  • Balsamic Garlic Chicken Cutlet
  • Shrimp Bruschetta Risotto

Should I throw away the full meal or just the cheese?

As Home Chef received the recalled ingredients in contained and pre-portioned packages, there is no risk of cross-contamination to additional ingredients. Accordingly, you may discard the cheese and cook the meal with that ingredient omitted.

What is Home Chef doing to protect customers from potential illness?

Home Chef has informed customers who received affected meal kits, advising them to discard any cheese ingredient affected by this voluntary recall.

What actions are being taken by the suppliers?

In addition to the voluntary recall of potentially affected products, Sargento is no longer working with Rizo-Lopez Foods, Inc.
