Does Home Chef charge sales tax?

Many states and municipalities require e-commerce companies to collect sales or transaction tax on online purchases, and Home Chef charges tax in accordance with applicable laws. Tax regulations vary by location:

Grocery Exemptions: Some states exempt groceries from sales tax or offer a reduced rate.

Local Taxes: Even in states where groceries are exempt at the state level, local cities and counties may still levy their own local taxes.

Home Chef is legally required to calculate and collect these taxes based on your address, and 100% of these funds are remitted to the relevant state and local tax authorities.

We currently collect applicable state and/or local sales and transaction taxes on orders shipped to the following states:

Alabama*, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia

You can review the tax breakdown on your order summary for any given week. To maintain full transparency and in accordance with applicable laws, tax will always be listed as a separate, explicit line item in your order:
